Prof. Dr. Carsten Reinhardt

Profile

Carsten Reinhardt is professor for historical studies of science at the University of Bielefeld; between 2013 and summer 2016 he has served as president and executive director of the Chemical Heritage Foundation in Philadelphia (U.S.A.). His research covers the generation and application of scientific and technical knowledge in the 19th and 20th centuries. He has produced studies on the history of industrial research and on the development of scientific methods based on interactions of chemistry with physics, biology, medicine and technology. Some of his further works focus on regulation and control mechanisms. Another of his research interests concerns the structures connecting historical collections, archives and research, especially how they relate to the ways the public perceives the results of history of science and technology.
