Governance and Finance

Jaromír Balcar's main contribution to the Research Program “History of the Max Planck Society” is his expertise in social history and history of science. His research work extends across three areas: The first is the institutional history of the MPG (including not only the General Administration of the MPG, which continued to become ever more important throughout the period, but also the statutes, by-laws and governance of the MPG; its direction and leading personnel; its bodies and procedures, and the reforms they underwent). The second area concerns its financing (a long-term comparison of money flows, revenues and expenditures); the third, the MPG’s relations to politics and business.
