Doris Kaufmann is working on the history of ethology. She focuses on the emergence and implications of Konrad Lorenz' internationally acknowledged scientific stardom that reached its peak in the 1960s and 1970s. Lorenz, also becoming a public intellectual in the decades of the Cold War, had a significant impact on other fields of knowledge inside and outside the MPG.
